  TOWN OF AURORA
Past Aurora, NY 14082 SUPERVISORS OFFICE
Dear Supervisor Bach:

This is in reply to your request for an emergency-vehicle traffic control signal and a crosswalk with a
Rectangular Rapid-Flashing Beacon (RRFB) at the West Falls Fire Company on NY 240, in the town
of Aurora. We have completed our investigation related to this matter.

NYSDOT guidance for emergency-vehicle traffic control signals requires a minimum of 200
emergency calls within 2 years when the traffic volume exceeds 375 vehicles per hour. The traffic
volume on NY 240 is well below this threshold and therefore an emergency-vehicle traffic control
signal will not be considered at this location.

NYSDOT reviewed the most recent five years of crash history available, as reported to the New York
State Department of Motor Vehicles. Over that period there were no crashes on NY 240 in the vicinity
of the fire hall. NYSDOT also obtained pedestrian counts on NY 240 at West Falls Fire Company on
October 14-19, 2025, which includes weekdays and the weekend. The maximum number of
pedestrians crossing NY 240 in an hour was 10 on October 18". NYSDOT Highway Design Manual
recommends a minimum of 20 pedestrian crossings per peak hour before the installation of a marked
crosswalk is considered. Based on our analysis, a crosswalk will not be marked at this time. This
location cannot be considered for an RRFB without a marked crosswalk.

Thank you for your interest in and support for the transportation system. If you have any questions or
need additional information, please feel free to contact me or Brianna Ciccone, of my staff, at (716)
847-3268.

Sincerely,

 Fac Pal
