safe location and issues are diagnosed, dispatchers will do their best to re-assign clients on that van’s schedule to other vans to get their clients to their appointments. Medical appointments should take priority, with non-medical appointments being assigned if possible. Non-medical food and personal errands can be rescheduled. Dispatch will contact any clients on the schedule whose trips will not be able to be honored that day and rescheduled for a different service date. Accidents When a van is involved in an accident, drivers will be alerting dispatchers as to what is happening, and it is key for dispatchers to remain calm as the driver may not be. The first thing is to get the location of the accident, ask if the van is now in a safe area, and driver and client on the van are okay. Dispatch can call 9-1-1 on behalf of the driver so the driver can make sure that the location of the accident is secure and that everyone who can safely exit the van exits. Dispatch will contact the Project Administrator and Agency Director to let them know of the accident, location of accident, van involved and if there were any clients on board during the accident. The Project Administrator will respond to the location of the accident to give updates to dispatch/agency directors. 16 | P a g e – E r i e C o u n t y G o i n g P l a c e s P o l i c y a n d P r o c e d u r e
