Whenever you are in your vehicle, the radio should always be on and the volume loud enough for you to hear the dispatchers. If there ever is an issue, dispatch should be notified immediately so the issue can be addressed. Notify your director about the issue, so it can be addressed in the proper manner. Always monitor your radio a few seconds before calling in. Non-professional behavior on the radio reflects poorly on all parties. Use proper call signs to identify the reason for leaving the van, or if you have properly heard the radio message. To better utilize time on the radio, use the terminology sheet to check in with dispatch when returning. When you call in to dispatch to be out on a break or lunch, make sure when you return to the vehicle, you alert that you are back in service as there may be a message needed to be relayed. Tablet & Paper Schedule All drivers should have a tablet and paper schedule to start their day. If there is a scheduled trip on the tablet or paper, and is not on the other, please ask dispatch about the trip at the start of your shift. There could have been a cancelation or addition after the schedules were sent at 2:30 pm the day before as dispatch is open until 4:20 pm. By asking about discrepancies at the start of your shift, it will allow the driver to better plan their day before it starts. It will also cut down on wasted time and fuel by not going to a client’s house who cancelled, or not realizing a client needed to be picked up that was added. If there is a logistical question about the schedule, two trips scheduled at the same time, or a minute apart. Please contact dispatch with any concerns before the trip. All trips on the schedule are in the order dispatch believes the client should be picked up. That includes clients who are scheduled at the same time, one minute apart, or one hour apart. Please never assume anything, please always ask a question if something does not make sense to you. RETURN TRIPS SHOULD NOT TAKE PRIORITY OVER AN OUTBOUND TRIP. THOSE WAITING FOR A RETURN HAVE ALREADY ACCOMPLISHED WHAT THE INTENT OF THE TRIP WAS FOR, AND OUTBOUND CLIENTS ARE NEEDING TO MAKE THEIR APPOINTMENT TIMES. IF YOU CANNOT PICK UP A RETURN TRIP IN A TIMELY MANNER, RADIO INTO DISPATCH FOR HELP. 36 | P a g e – E r i e C o u n t y G o i n g P l a c e s P o l i c y a n d P r o c e d u r e
