Town of Aurora | Town Board Meeting | August 10, 2026

BUSINESS FROM BOARD MEMBERS/LIAISONS:

Councilmember Garvey commented on the success on National Night Out and a fun time for his family.
He also met with Mastersons Garden Center regarding the roundabout at the convergence of Route 16
and the 400 to socialize a cleanup and potential transformation of the plot to a water smart pollinator
garden. The Climate Smart Committee expressed interest in assisting as this would align with Climate
Smart goals. Councilmember Garvey offered a reminder about the Dare-to-Repair Café on August 27 at
the Aurora Senior Center and asked that interested parties register to attend. A representative from Erie
County will be onsite to talk about the composting program.

Councilmember Wrazen agreed with Councilmember Garvey recognizing the strong National Night Out
attendance. On the note of the composting program, the Town of Aurora already distributed their
allotment of table top composting bins, so Councilmember Wrazen partnered with the Village of East
Aurora to share some of their excess. In light of the popularity of the bins, more are being ordered. First
compost drop off begins August 15, 2026 at the Village Department of Public Works.

Supv. Snyder also offered his thanks to Chief Welch, Village Department of Public Works and Town
Highway Department for all efforts that went into the National Night Out event. Regarding the Code
Review Committee, they will soon have sections to recommend to the Planning Board for review. They
are working two at a time to meter the code update process.

AUDIENCE II: none

STAFF REPORTS:

Highway Superintendent Gunner reported a busy project season with the work on West Falls Park Lodge
expected to be complete the next day. He noted that a few weeks ago, they completed work on the
parking lot and kayak boat launch at Majors Park. He’s planning to have his team begin work on Castle
Hill paving this week. He’s looking forward to starting work on the salt barn project which will be partially
offset by NYDEC Grants; and landscaping at the Aurora Municipal Center.

Police Chief Welch spoke with appreciation for the National Night Out sponsors that made it a free
event for the community and to the volunteers for their time and effort. Starting last week, Karin Dojnik
was hired as Senior Police Clerk replacing Darlene Williamson who is retiring. With Officer Rick Gottstine
retiring, Chief Welch is in the process of finalizing a selection for a new officer. Chief Welch met with the
Borderland event lead, Jennifer Brazill, to review the traffic plan for the upcoming festival in September
and agreed they would follow the same process used in 2025. Regarding police vehicle and officer
camera technology, Chief Welch is applying for the New York State Law Enforcement Technology grant
as the current equipment is about 10 years old. Depending on the outcome of the grant, they may need
to fund the difference in the cost of updating the cameras.

Assistant Code Enforcement Officer Miga stated notifications went out to local businesses for upcoming
fire inspections.

Recreation Director Musshafen commented that the busy summer season has wound down; just the
Chess Camp is in session. He thanked the summer staff and a special thanks to Oliver Biggs who after 10
years won’t be returning next year. Director Musshafen also spoke with great appreciation for Assistant
to the Supervisor and Budget Officer Kathleen Moffatt who was supportive and helpful to him. And that
she accounted for every dollar, having recently received an email from her inquiring about where $0.43
was.

Zoning Board of Appeals (ZBA) Member Rod Simeone reported that there is a upcoming unique use
variance in which the ZBA Board will be seeking Town Board advisement.
