Public Service Announcement — Protect Your Property, Protect Yourself

The Village of Gowanda reminds ail residents and business owners to only hire
contractors who are properly licensed, insured, and approved to work within the Village.

After major storm events, it is common for unlicensed or out-of-area contractors to
solicit work. While some may appear legitimate, hiring unapproved contractors can
expose you to serious risks, including:

  « Substandard or incomplete work
« Lack of accountability or recourse
e Personal liability for injuries or property damage
« Failure to obtain required permits and inspections

Approved contractors are required to meet Village standards, carry proper insurance,
and follow all applicable codes and permitting requirements—ensuring the work is done
safely, legally, and correctly.

Before hiring anyone:
Ask for proof of insurance
Confirm they are authorized to work in the Village
Ensure all required permits are obtained

Taking these simple steps helps protect your investment, your safety, and your
community.

For questions or to verify a contractor, please contact the Village Code Enforcement
Office.
