RESOLUTION NO: 5, 2026

multiple benefits, including increasing housing access and choices for current and future

Re: Name Change to Lackawanna Senior Center
Dear Council President Marrano and the Honorable City Council:
On behalf of Mayor lafallo, | am requesting the City Council vote at the upcoming meeting on
January 20, 2026 to approve a name change for the Lackawanna Senior Center to the Lackawanna
Community and Senior Center.
As the Council is aware, the Lackawanna Senior Center has provided various services to the
City’s senior population for decades, While that use has remained consistent, over more recent years,
other members of the larger community have used the property for various activities. For example:
e In the evenings the Senior Center is regularly used for local Girl Scout Troop and Lackawanna
Little Loop Football & Cheerleading meetings;
Page 4
e The Lackawanna Recreation Department and Lackawanna Youth Board host the Annual
Halloween and Christmas Party, and Winterfest, at the Senior Center; and
«© The property is used for community events such as National Night Out.
Mayor lafallo respectfully requests that the Council approve the name change to more accurately
reflect the use of the property. The hope is that this change, coupled with the broader use of the
property in recent years, will allow the City to tap into additional grant funding sources.
Thank you for your consideration of this request.
