RESOLUTION MODIFYING THE ELECTION SCHEDULE FOR VILLAGE TRUSTEES TO BIENNIAL EVEN- NUMBERED YEAR ELECTIONS Trustee ______, offered the following resolution and moved for its adoption: WHEREAS, the adoption of a staggered biennial election cycle for the election of the Village Trustees will provide residents of the Village of East Aurora with a more routine opportunity to participate in the selection of their representatives than the current election cycle allows; and WHEREAS, the transition to biennial elections benefits the public interest by allowing for evenly spaced elections and promoting administrative efficiency in not requiring elections in successive years followed by two years without an election; and WHEREAS, a transition to biennial elections in even numbered years requires adjustment to the term length for the successors of those trustees whose terms expire in 2027, so that future elections are staggered biennially in even numbered years, and all trustees and the mayor aren’t up for election in the same year; NOW, BE IT RESOLVED, that the Village Trustees hereby approve and adopt a biennial election cycle, with all future elections, beginning after the 2027 general election, to be held in even-numbered years. The adoption of this plan shall require an adjustment of the term length for the successors (“Successors”) to those current trustees whose term expires in 2027. The Successors shall have their term extended to five (5) years, expiring in 2032, thereby aligning their term length to the biennial even- numbered year framework. Trustees elected in 2030 shall be elected to a four (4) year term. All trustees elected in the 2032 election, and thereafter for all subsequent elections, shall serve four (4) year terms. This resolution is subject to a permissive referendum in accordance with New York State Village Law. This resolution shall take effect thirty (30) days from the adoption hereof if no valid petition is filed in the interim, seeking the matter be submitted to the Village electorate for approval / disapproval; or in the event a petition is duly filed, upon the approval of the resolution by the Village electors. The following resolution was seconded by Trustee _______, and duly put to a roll call vote which resulted in the following: Trustee Lazickas - Trustee Root - Trustee Viger - Trustee Kamp - Trustee Cameron - Trustee Bojanowski - Mayor Wochensky -
