Town of Aurora | Town Board Meeting | April 27, 2026 BUSINESS FROM BOARD MEMBERS/LIAISONS: Deputy Supervisor McCann reported that he has begun weekly meetings with Supervisor Snyder in his role as Deputy Supervisor and appreciates the opportunity to better understand the work occurring in the Supervisor’s office. He also reported that, following the Elma water emergency, the Town is reviewing its emergency notification system. New disaster coordinator Dan Dytchkowskyj will help determine whether the current system can be improved or whether a new product should be considered. The Town will work with the Village on the effort. Councilmember Armbrust reported that the Sewer District meeting was held on April 14, which she and Councilmember Wrazen attended. The district formally approved filter replacements previously approved by email poll. The new system will replace sand with a washable/replaceable filter system and is expected to be more modern and efficient. Councilmember Armbrust also reported that she received a positive report that the system handled the recent excess water event without issue. Councilmember Armbrust stated that she will attend New York Associate of Towns Personnel training and lobbying day in Albany early May. As one of the library board liaisons, she will be arranging a separate meeting with a Library Board member because the Library Board’s regular meeting schedule conflicts with Town Board meetings. Councilmembers Wrazen shared that the Open Space Committee and Climate Smart Task Force met to discuss the Natural Resource Inventory. Significant work has been done to gather information, maps, and formatting, but the next phase may require additional expertise. A joint subcommittee may be formed to determine next steps. The committees also discussed updating signage at Majors Park South, including the possible use of QR codes to reduce sign clutter while still providing detailed visitor information. Supervisor Snyder reported that the annual July 3 fireworks meeting was held. Special plans are being considered for the 250th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence. He also met with representatives from the Department of State and Empire State Development regarding New York Forward Grant work planned in West Falls, including the playground, library, and Veterans Park. Additionally, he participated in the Arbor Day celebration with Mayor Wochensky and noted that it was well attended. Councilmember Wrazen shared that Open Space Committee work on the Natural Resource Inventory was also discussed as part of Climate Smart Communities efforts. Supervisor Snyder noted upcoming ADA compliance requirements for the Town website and meeting communications, including reducing unexplained acronyms and more clearly identifying speakers and department heads during meetings. AUDIENCE II: Luke Wochensky, Village resident and Mayor, addressed the Board and congratulated Councilmember Garvey on his appointment. Mayor Wochensky proposed formal quarterly or biannual meetings between Town and Village representatives to discuss shared issues. He also proposed greater collaboration between the Town and Village on Climate Smart Community efforts, including a joint website, shared initiatives, and participation by the Village Bike and Pedestrian Board in the Town’s Scoot Around June initiative. Mayor Wochensky also suggested a Village versus Town cornhole event at Firemen’s Field in June as an informal opportunity for officials to meet and build relationships. STAFF REPORTS: Highway Superintendent David Gunner reported that baseball season has begun and that the foundation for the shed being delivered to the baseball leagues has been completed. He noted that the wet spring and early April storm caused damage, but cleanup is mostly complete. He also discussed concerns about rising fuel and asphalt costs, which may affect road work planning. He stated that planned road work has not yet been changed, but costs are being reviewed. Superintendent Gunner thanked the Board for helping the Highway Department stay on track with its 10-year equipment plan. Police Chief Pat Welch reported that he is working with the new deputy emergency manager Dan Dytchkowskyj on the Town’s emergency management structure and incident command process. He also reported that planning continues for the July 3 events and the Heart of Music event in early June. A speed monitoring device has been placed on Snyder Road and will collect data for at least 10 days. Chief Welch also reported that officers are participating in Governor’s Traffic Safety Council grants focused on cell phone violations, seat belts, and speeding. Coffee with a Cop will be held Saturday at 9:00 a.m. at McDonald’s. Safety Pup is expected to attend. 4
