If leaving the vehicle unattended for any amount of time, turn off the engine, take the keys, engage the 4-way flashers and put the transmission in “PARK”. Also, notify dispatch of the type of absence from the vehicle you are intending to take. Completion of trips using the Routing Box Application on the tablets in the vehicles must be done for every trip. While there is an ability to update the status of each trip is possible, there may be times when you are unable to do so. Please update all trip statuses or complete the trip when you are in a safe place to do so. Supervision of Passengers Supervision of passengers must always be done with courtesy, tact and respect. There is no smoking/vaping, drinking or eating in the vehicle. All passengers must remain seated when the vehicle is in motion. If there is a serious infraction during the ride, find a safe place to park and discuss it with the passengers. Use the radio to contact dispatch for advice if needed. If the infraction is minor, discuss it privately with the passenger later. Always speak softly and tactfully, explaining that what they are doing is not allowed. Alert the passenger that you may have to report any major or minor infraction to your agency director and county dispatch. Do not be distracted by passenger conversations. If the conversation goes in a direction where confrontation can occur, please do your best to direct the conversation in a different direction to avoid the confrontation. Always be courteous and patient with passengers. Neer use sarcasm, shout, argue or lose your temper. Report troublesome passengers to your agency director and county dispatch at the end of your shift. Your agency director or county dispatch will address the issue with the passengers, and counsel them on best practices going forward. In either case, the use of a company provided cell phone or personal cell phone should always be done when the vehicle is NOT IN MOTION. If a driver needs to communicate using a cell phone, they should do so in a safe area with the vehicle in park. Giving out your personal cell phone can lead to passengers contacting you during non- business hours or your days off. All scheduling and return calls should go through dispatch by having the passenger call 716-858-7433. Once a passenger is planning with the driver, dispatch can no longer assist you. To protect yourself, your agency and the passengers, always have the passenger call into dispatch for scheduling and return rides.
