This was a very informative and inspirational session. We look forward to attending next year's seminar to be held in Auburn, NY. Deputy Town Historian and Village Historian, Darlene Sarver Johnson, attended the Government Appointed Historians of WNY on Saturday, September 19 at the East Aurora Senior Center. Alex Pierce Grove presented the main lecture “The Municipal Historian and the Comprehensive Plan”. Because we are the stewards of our community's history, we must remember the following points in reviewing the Comprehensive Plan of our community. Historians have a statutory role with the planning committee of the Town and Village. We have the ready resources to inform the committee of the historic nature of properties, people and eras of our community. We are ready messengers to inform the public of national and local historic districts of the Village. Does the plan ignore or place less emphasis on the historic preservation of the Village? Does the plan encourage the support and preservation of our buildings, community and culture? Other features of the Conference include: e Discussion of Historians attending Town and Village Board meetings Using charts to track the historians work time The Reinstein Achievement Award presented to Town of Aurora historian Robert Gollier Discussions with the Boston & Colden Town Historians how we can support each other | am so thankful that our community supports the Lucy Bensley Center with room for all of the historic documents and artifacts that we have
