GHD utilizes the latest version of many modeling programs depending on client need including EPA-SWMM, PCSWMM, Bentley SewerGEMS, and InfoWorks ICM to create simulations of sewer flows in response to weather events. These models can be used to perform simple analyses that predict needed pipe sizes to multi-variable optimizations using software like Optimatics Optimizer. Sewer models currently maintained by GHD within Western New York include: 1. Niagara County Sewer District No. 1 5. Erie County Sewer District No. 2 2. Livingston County Water and Sewer Authority 6. City of Tonawanda Wastewater Pump Stations Pump station design requires attention to design details that can have large effects on pump performance. Many of these design guidelines are maintained by the Hydraulics Institute in standard ANSI/HI 9.8. GHD’s engineers have a strong understanding of the standard and have used it to design and evaluate pump stations that range in size from can-style duplex systems to pump stations that are as large as 500 horsepower. When required, GHD uses Bentley HAMMER and computational fluid dynamics to analyze transient conditions and mitigate damage to pumps and pipelines that can occur. 4.2 Municipal Water Services GHD offers competitive services in water transmission and distribution covering the full life cycle of projects. With nearly 100 years’ experience, GHD works for public and private clients covering a wide range of services including planning, evaluations and design to bidding, construction administration, and field services during construction. We have developed a suite of tools and procedures to allow us to deliver projects expeditiously and cost effectively. They include: automated pipe grading for different pipe materials and joint systems; 3-D pipe routing software that helps to identify the optimum alignment that minimizes excavation and conflicts with existing services and other site constraints; proven bedding designs for different soil conditions and pipe materials.
