e Deviation from Standard Care: Modifying lighting in a community with no
sidewalks, where seniors must share the narrow road with vehicles,
requires prioritizing pedestrian safety over skyward shielding.

Conclusion and Requested Action

While we respect the intent of this new lighting code, the fully shielded standard
is an engineering mismatch that strips away light from the human body. Our solid
top lamppost head design already solves the problem of upward light pollution.

To protect our residents from physical harm and to protect the Condominium
from catastrophic personal injury liability, we respectfully request we must
maintain our current solid-top, translucent sided lamppost system. It is the only
configuration that ensures a senior resident on a sidewalk-free road can be seen
by their neighbors and oncoming traffic.
