VILLAGE OF GOWANDA “Gateway to the Southern Tier” 27 E Main Street ¢ Gowanda NY 14070 (716)532-3353 ¢@ Fax (716)532-2938 “The Village of Gowanda is an Equal Opportunity Provider and Employer.” January 6, 2026 New York State Liquor Authority Alfred E. Smith Office Building, Suite 900 80 South Swan Street Albany, NY 12210-8002 To whom it may concern, The Village of Gowanda supports Gowanda’s Historic Hollywood Theater in obtaining additional beer and wine permits for all of theit fundraising events. Gowanda’s Historic Theater is a not-for-profit (601c3) community-based otganization that has been doing a phase-by-phase restoration of the 1926 Hollywood Theater located in Gowanda Village Historic District. The ‘ Town of Collins/Village of Gowanda Master Plan and The Village of Gowanda Business District Development and Downtown Revitalization Study, along with numerous independent studies all conclude that the Hollywood Theater is an important element in preserving and enhancing the Gowanda Village Historic Disttict and is the key to downtown revitalization, job creation and attracting cultural tourism. To that end, the Hollywood theater has become a community anchor. When the Gowanda High School auditorium was undergoing capital improvements, art shows and plays took place at the Hollywood. Local youth enjoy summers at the Theater Drama Camp & preschool music camp. The Gowanda Lions Club and Kiwanis hold meetings at the Theater. The Hollywood hosts local safety training, First Aid and CPR classes for which there is no chatge. There could be no finet example of “Social Capital” than the Gowanda’s Historic Hollywood Theater. There is community involvement for municipalities, civic groups, veterans groups, businesses, and area residents both young and old. Unfortunately, maintaining, upgrading and paying utilities can be cost prohibitive for many non-profits and requires continual fundraising. The most financially successful fundraisers require beet and wine permits. The Village of Gowanda, therefore, requests and encourages the New York State Liquor Authority to issue additional permits per year to the not-for-profit Gowanda’s Historic Hollywood Theater, Ltd. We thank you for your consideration. Thank you, Mark D. Nephew, Mayor Village of Gowanda
