This designation recognizes Lackawanna City Government’s commitment to preserving and expanding housing opportunities, promoting smart growth and continuing efforts underway since 2020 to rebuild the City’s local economy and community infrastructure for the benefit of all residents and property owners. As a certified Pro-Housing Community, the City of Lackawanna is now eligible for various state funding programs and resources which support housing and economic development, and the preservation and transformation of neighborhoods into vibrant catalysts for economic growth. My thanks to Mayor Iafallo and the City Council for their leadership actions supporting the City’s application; which involved the compilation and submission of significant amounts of zoning information and data, along with corresponding narratives. I also want to recognize the city’s Code Enforcement team of Scott Hayes, Steven Balon and Grace Galanti, and Development Assistant James Gibson, for their valuable contributions to the City’s application – which received an expedited review and approval by HCR due to its high quality. Overall, this is a great development news for the City of Lackawanna. Therefore, I ask that this brief update be placed on the March 2, 2026 City Council Meeting Agenda for receive / file action. Dear Chuck – We are delighted to inform you that the City of Lackawanna has been designated a Pro-Housing Community. Attached please find the official certification letter along with a social media toolkit and program seals for your use. If you have any questions, please let us know!
