technology, and most fire departments will probably defer to them when it comes to an
emergency situation.

Chair Gronachan noted she would like to see if the fire departments are trained for this.

Member Geraci asked, not being familiar with battery storage, do they produce their
own electricity that is supplied to the area or sold to NYSEG?

The Applicant responded these are batteries, they do not generate electricity they store
electricity. They charge at night and discharge during the day.

Member Geraci asked what is the purpose of storing electricity?

The Applicant responded there are several reasons. First, without effective battery
storage, electricity needs to be generated at the same time as it is being used so the
load has to match the supply. Secondly, batteries allow for cheaper power in the power
industry and lastly all the power that is put out is used within Hamburg.

The Planning Board authorized the Planning Department to file the appropriate notices
and conduct a coordinated review.

The project was tabled to the June 17th, 2026 PB meeting.
