ISSUES OF THE PUBLIC
The following comments and questions were received:

James Raymond, Cedar Ridge Drive:
- Are the positions of Secretary to the Planning Board and Zoning Board of Appeals a part of the
Town Clerk's responsibilities - Supervisor Dickson stated they are not, they are additional
responsibilities and there is a stipend for them. The Town Clerk's Office has declined to fill the
positions.
- Were the positions open to the public or internal candidates - Supervisor Dickson stated they are
internal candidates, and it is useful that the secretaries are familiar with the town.
- How many applicants applied - Supervisor Dickson stated Deputy Supervisor Greenan sought
interested candidates.
- For many years, the Town Clerk filled this positions and expressed curiosity about the reasons
Town Clerk Newton declined the positions - Deputy Town Clerk Martin referred to a previous Town
Board taking the Secretary positions away from the Town Clerk and, in Ms. Martin's opinion, the
boards run more smoothly when the Town Clerk's Office holds the positions.
- Will the Town Clerk still be responsible for registering the minutes - Supervisor Dickson stated that
is the appropriate practice.
- Why was it that no one in the Town Clerk's Office volunteered for the positions - Supervisor Dickson
stated they have their own reasons.
- How many applicants were there for the Zoning Board and Planning Board positions - Deputy
Supervisor Greenan stated approximately 8 - 11. Councilmember Piekarec stated 11 for the Zoning
Board and 8 for Planning Board with 2 applicants applying to both boards.
- How are the openings communicated - Deputy Supervisor Greenan stated any and all open
positions are posted on Facebook and the town's website. Councilmember Piekarec added that the
West Seneca Bee announced this, also.
- How many applicants are being interviewed for the positions - Deputy Supervisor Greenan stated 6
for the Zoning Board and 5 for the Planning Board.
- Would it not be better to interview all applicants - Supervisor Dickson stated that each Town Board
member reviews the resumes and selects 3 candidates.
- How long are the appointments for each board - Councilmember Piekarec stated 7 years for the
Planning Board and 5 years for the Zoning Board, noting one opening on the Planning Board is for a
partial term. Deputy Supervisor Greenan stated the length of the terms matches the number of
members on each board.
- What specific qualifications are sought and are they different between Town Board members -
