[DRAFT] for discussion purposes only TO: Board of Trustees of the Village of East Aurora FROM: Mayor Wochensky DATE: May 27, 2026 RE: Proposal for the Creation of the Village of East Aurora Downtown Revitalization & Economic Vitality Task Force 1. Purpose The Village of East Aurora (the “Village”) has a unique opportunity to strengthen its position as one of Western New York’s premier walkable, historic, and destination-oriented communities. As the Village advances its Comprehensive Plan process and evaluates future opportunities relating to main street improvements/revitalization, economic development, tourism, historic preservation, arts and culture, and community investment, there is value in creating a collaborative advisory body focused on these issues. I am proposing that the Village establish a Downtown Revitalization & Economic Vitality Task Force to assist the Village in identifying opportunities, strengthening coordination among stakeholders, and positioning the Village competitively for future state, regional, and federal economic development and revitalization initiatives, including potential participation in programs such as the Downtown Revitalization Initiative (DRI), NY Forward, Empire State Development programs, and Western New York Regional Economic Development Council opportunities. The Task Force would function in an advisory and strategic capacity and would not replace or duplicate the authority of existing boards, commissions, departments, or elected officials. 2. Areas of Focus (1) Main Street/Strategic Corridor Promotion and Economic Development The Task Force may assist the Village by providing recommendations and feedback relating to: - Main Street vitality and beautification; - support for locally owned small businesses; - tourism and destination development; - strategic investment opportunities; - adaptive reuse and redevelopment opportunities; - activation of public spaces and commercial corridors; - arts, culture, and creative economy initiatives; - support for film and media activity where appropriate; and, - strengthening East Aurora’s identity as a vibrant, walkable destination community.
