  should consider opportunities for consistency and collaboration with the Town
  of Aurora Comprehensive Plan and related regional initiatives while preserving
  the Village’s distinct identity, governance, and planning priorities.

  2. Planning Philosophy

  The Village seeks a Comprehensive Plan grounded in the following core
  principles:

  (1) Preserve and Strengthen Village Character
  East Aurora values its historic character, walkable neighborhoods, tree-lined
  streets, public spaces, architectural quality, and strong sense of community
  identity.

  Future planning efforts should:
  - preserve the Village’s unique small-town character;
  - encourage context-sensitive development;
  - strengthen neighborhood identity;
  - enhance the appearance and usability of public spaces;
  - support thoughtful design and placemaking; and,
  - avoid generic or auto-oriented development patterns that undermine
  community character.

  (2) Promote Walkability, Bikeability, and Connectivity

  The Village seeks to become increasingly safe, accessible, and connected for
  pedestrians, bicyclists, and users of all ages and abilities.

  The Comprehensive Plan should support:
  - safer pedestrian crossings and sidewalks;
  - traffic calming and complete streets concepts;
  - enhanced bicycle connectivity;
  - improved access to parks, schools, downtown, and neighborhoods;
  - greater accessibility and ADA improvements;
  - reduced reliance on automobile-only transportation patterns; and ,
  - promote/encourage use of NFTA Bus service to/from downtown Buffalo.

  The Village is currently evaluating a separate but coordinated mobility and
  walkability planning initiative, and the Comprehensive Plan should integrate
  and support those efforts.

  (3) Support Environmental Stewardship and Resiliency

  East Aurora values its natural resources, tree canopy, parks, and open
  spaces. Environmental sustainability and resiliency should be integrated
  throughout the planning process.
