Phase 1B – Idlewood Subdivision - Hamburg, PA archaeological sites identified during the field investigation will be documented on OPHRP site forms. If required, laboratory analysis of artifacts, including cleaning, identification, and cataloging, will be conducted at Chronicle’s Buffalo office. Artifacts will be grouped by provenience and uniquely numbered and identified on artifact identification cards made from acid-free paper. Catalog numbers will not be written on artifacts. Results will be presented in final report. Task 2. Laboratory Work If there are artifacts recovered from features during the Phase IB archaeological investigation, they will be returned to Chronicle Heritage’s Buffalo, NY Office’s laboratory for cleaning, cataloguing, and analysis. Laboratory processing will be carried out in accordance with applicable state and federal curation guidelines. Following processing, an artifact inventory will be prepared. To the extent possible, the recovered artifacts will be identified as to material, temporal association, or cultural or chronological association, style, and function. Preliminary analysis will seek patterns in the relative composition of the recovered artifact assemblage, particularly to the extent that such patterns may indicate the functional nature of the assemblages, and the site formation processes associated with their deposition. These attributes are particularly relevant to the evaluation of potential archaeological significance. Artifacts and associated documentation will be processed and prepared in accordance with the requirements of the NYSHPO. At the conclusion of the investigation, the artifacts will be returned to the landowner or transferred to the NYSHPO for permanent curation along with field records and documentation. Task 3: Reporting The report will include a summary of relevant information, with accompanying maps (where appropriate), concerning the environmental/physical setting addressing geology, soils, hydrology, physiography/geomorphology, climate, flora, fauna, and any recent human/natural disturbances; a summary of background historical information and historical maps; a summary of official NYSHPO records for the Project Area derived from the NYSHPO online Cultural Resources Information System (CRIS) database research; the results of the walkover reconnaissance of the project area with digital photography to document field conditions, observations, areas of disturbance, and site setting; and recommendations for future cultural resources work, if necessary. The report can be uploaded to NYSHPO at the request of the client. (Please note, however, we would need to be made a contact for the project in CRIS and have the upload token provided by NYSHPO to complete that task.) Assumptions The below cost estimate assumes: 1. as recommended in the Phase 1A report, STPs will be dug at a ten-meter intervals off of paved surfaces along the entire length of the project area, 2. property access to conduct the investigation will be granted before initiation of the survey, 3. project boundaries can be clearly delineated for the project area(s), 4. if the proposed project area design changes or is different to the figure provided on October 7, an additional cost may be required, 3 93
