Petition to lower the speed limit on Snyder
  Road and Luther Road
We are hereby petitioning the Town of Aurora to officially request the Department of
Transportation lower the speed limit on Snyder Road and Luther Road. The speed limits on these
roads are unnecessarily high. Some of the main reasons for this are pedestrians and bicyclist are
constantly traveling on these roads. Traveling at 45 MPH on Snyder and Luther Roads is
dangerous. When these roads are busy, there isn't always room to move around pedestrians and
bicyclist safely, but people take the risk and go round them. Also, people speed on these roads so
it's even more dangerous than usual. Due to the reconstruction of these roads, the roads have
now become a cut through for residences from Hamburg, Boston and Orchard Park to East
Aurora. This has increased the traffic on these roads immensely. These travelers have no regard
for the residences on these roads, much less the bikers and pedestrians and commonly travel at
50 MPH or higher.

The residence of Snyder and Luther Roads have contacted the police on several occasions with
request to monitor these roads more often. These requests have fallen on deaf ears.

On Snyder and Luther Roads, 45 MPH is too high because there are blind spots where driveways
are located. Statistics also show that these roads are too dangerous. Some examples that prove
this are:

At 20 MPH 9 out of 10 people will survive.

At 30 MPH 5 out of 10 people will survive.

At 40 mph 2 out of 10 people will survive.

At just 5 MPH over the speed limit, you are twice as likely to kill someone.

If this doesn't change, accidents and/or death will occur.

If we reduce these roads by 10 MPH, more people will survive if they get hit. 10 MPH makes a
huge difference when it comes to someone surviving. This speed change could rise the number
of people who survive.

Overall, we are requesting the Town to petition the Department of Transportation to improve the
safety of these roads to lower accidents and death risk. We would like to make a change in our
community where residences, bicyclist and pedestrians feel safe traveling to and from their
homes so the whole community is safe on these roads.
