  2022
Erie County Multi Hazard Mitigation Plan – Town of Aurora
An update to the County’s original 2015 plan, the focus of
the plan is to identify actions that would help reduce long-
term risks caused by hazards or disasters such as flooding,
earthquakes, or wildfires. Each participating jurisdiction was
provided with a profile overviewing their community and the
risks they face, along with a list of recommended actions they
can take to mitigate those risks. Overall, two hazards were
identified as high risk for Aurora, flooding and utility failure. To
address these risks and others, four recommended actions
were provided for the Town to undertake:
  1. Conduct a vulnerability assessment for each school to
determined improvements needed to mitigate future
  hazards.
  2. Conduct a study to determine where a potable water
facility could be built in the Town.
  3. Install two generators at each emergency facility in the
  Town.
  4. Work with the Count to conduct outreach to flood-prone
  properties in the Town.

  2023
Town of Aurora Complete Streets Policy
Adopted in 2023, the objective of the policy is for the Town
to ensure they are creating safe, accessible, and sustainable
transportation networks that accommodate the needs of all
users, including pedestrians, cyclists, motorists, farmers and
other businesses. Inspired by New York State’s 2011 Complete
Streets Act which requires all federal and state funded
transportation projects to design roadways for all users; the
Town’s policy also requires locally funded projects to do the
  same.

State of the Region: Western New York Strategic Plan
There are ten Regional Economic Development Councils
(REDC) across New York State, each designed to empower
local officials to address the most pertinent needs in their
communities. The Town of Aurora falls within the Western
New York (WNY) region, regional priorities identified in the
WNY that should be considered with the growth of Aurora
