12 Town of Aurora

  Key Demographics & Trends

The following Section is an overview of demographic trends in the Town of
Aurora. To assist in the evaluation and the understanding of current issues,
comparisons are made to the Towns of Orchard Park and Concord, as well
as the entirety of Erie County. Orchard Park was selected as a comparison
community as it is a neighboring Southtown community to Aurora which also
includes a village. However, alternative to Aurora, Orchard Park has embraced
sewer expansions and strip commercial development. The Town of Orchard
Park experienced much of their population growth during the second half of
the 20th century as many households at the time left the City Buffalo, following
the national trend of suburbanization. The Town of Concord was also selected
as a comparison community as it is also an Erie County Southtown with a
village within it; however, its rate of population growth and rural/agricultural
setting more closely align with the Town of Aurora.
Throughout this section, Community, County, and State data was sourced from the U.S. Census
Bureau Decennial Census, American Community Survey (ACS), IMPLAN, Envision Tomorrow, data.
NYSED, NYSDOL, and Cornell’s Program on Applied Demographics (PAD); In some instances, there
are slight discrepancies in dataset years between areas of investigation. The closest years are
provided for comparison purposes. While conclusions drawn from this dataset should take into
consideration data collection methods, these data sources are the most current and accurate
  statistics available.
