Comprehensive Plan 49 County & State Parks Emery Park Emery Park is a 457-acre park and one of the oldest in the Erie County system as it was acquired in 1925 from the Josiah Emery farmstead, a former resident of the Town. The park is multi-purposed, offering both passive and sports-specific recreation options for all four seasons. With a major ravine and the Cazenovia Creek cutting through the park, the park offers an abundance of opportunities for hiking and immersion in natural settings. Other prominent recreational facilities in the park include a ski-slope and lodge, an 18-hole black diamond disc golf course, an amphitheater, and various sports facilities and picnic areas. Knox Farm State Park Knox Farm State Park is a New York State owned park and the former country estate of Buffalo’s renowned Knox Family. The 633-acre park is comprised of a variety of habitats, including over 400 acres of meadows, 100 acres of woodlands and several prominent ponds and wetlands. The park’s expansive set of trails provides amenities for various activities such as biking, hiking, horseback riding, and cross- country skiing. The park is also home to a 6-acre dog park and nursery which supplies planting to state parks all throughout Western New York (WNY). However, the park is most notable for hosting the Borderland Music & Arts Festival, which is a three-day festival celebrating the rich history of the WNY region. Going on for six years now, the festival welcomes over 10,000 attendees to the Town of Aurora each year. Trails, Waterways, and Other Recreational Opportunities Erie Cattaraugus Rail Trail The Erie Cattaraugus Rail Trail is a planned 27-mile multi-use trail that will eventually connect the Town of Orchard Park in Erie County to the Town of Ashford in Cattaraugus County, utilizing the former right-of-way for the Buffalo, Rochester, and Pittsburgh Railroad. Currently under development, portions of the trail are open in the Towns of Orchard Park and Concord, and the Village of Springville. The portion of the trail that will traverse through the Town of Aurora will begin on the border of Aurora and Orchard Park on Ellicott Rd (NYS Route 240). Following the Buffalo, Rochester, and Pittsburgh Railroad right-of-way, the trail will pass through the Hamlets of Jewettville and West Falls before exiting the Town into the Town of Colden along Davis Rd (NYS Route 240). Once fully completed, the trail will provide residents and visitors of Aurora with 27 miles of uninterrupted access throughout multiple historic communities in Western New York.
